MEASURING YOUR YARD - FINDING THE AREA IN SQUARE METRES

Break the yard area up into various common shapes, to make it easier to work out the square metres of turf required.

Yard measurement

In this example:

4 x rectangles

minus

1 x circle (garden)

Equals the required amount of turf

MEASURING A SQUARE / RECTANGLE

To measure the area for a square or rectangle, just multiply the width by the height

9m x 6m = 54 square metres

MEASURING A CIRCLE

To measure the area of a circle, multiply the radius by itself, then by 3.14.

The diameter is the length from side to side, going through the middle of the circle.  The radius is half of the diameter.  To get the radius divide diameter divided by 2

(radius) 4m x 4m x 3.14 = 50.24 square metres

MEASURING A TRIANGLE

To measure the area of a triangle, multiply the height by half the base width.

4m x 3.5m = 14 square metres
